Well. I hadn't really planned on getting a new 3CS for a bit, and when I did, I wanted it to be a Type 3 as it's my favorite of the 3 Types, but, I actually quite liked this one, and it was at a pretty good price, so I wasn't gonna say no. I like the kind of subtle toning to it, it catches the eye quite nicely. From what I've seen, 3CS often are a bit lacking in the luster department, but this one looks to have quite nice luster. All in I paid $380, and seeing how Greysheet is $430, having a $50 discount on a nice example was a definite plus! Edited by GrapeCollects 06/15/2020 10:49 am

Thanks everyone! I can't wait to get it in hand soon. I'm now half way through the set (according to NGC) because I don't have all the seated sub-types. But, I'm making progress. I want to finish my IHCs next, so off to find a nice CN and T1 indian!

Nice! At least one of us won their GC auction this past weekend. I had mine snatched away last second. Them there's the breaks.

Impressive specimen. I agree with the appeal of the subtle toning, tough to find with the right color. Well done!

Quote: I had mine snatched away last second. Happens to me all the time sadly. I got lucky and was the sole bidder, which I found odd as the starting price was quite low. Quote: . I agree with the appeal of the subtle toning, tough to find with the right color. I find the toning to be quite heavy on these coins in general for some reason. Not quite sure why. Lots of dark blues, purples, and near blacks available, and the few examples with attractive color have little luster because of the toning. This one has nice sunburst toning with abnormally bright luster. It'll be in hand in a few days (probably Saturday) so I'll upload some in hand stuff when it does arrive.

Quote: I find the toning to be quite heavy on these coins in general for some reason. Not quite sure why. Lots of dark blues, purples, and near blacks available, I believe a lot of the really dark toning comes from the velvet material they were in contact in the proof cases. I've seen a lot over the years, and many are exactly as you said, dark blue, purples almost to the point of a black coal look. Ask Julian what he thinks? I'd put my money on contact with the velvet cases.
