Trying to get an idea of value. Right now I cannot find my 1878-s/cc on VAM World. Any help is greatly appreciated. This is definitely a unique coin. I bought this 1878-s/cc Morgan about 8 years ago and I was told it was just an 1878-s but when going through some of my coins I noticed the mint mark was strange. I tried using a cell phone but today I had a professional photograph it for me. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I see an "s" mint mark that's been damaged/flattened.

Honestly you need to look in the bottom opening of the "s" and you will see a bump on the right side that's the bottom of the"s" on the left side where the opening for the "s" should be you will see a straight edge which is the top of the first "c" . The see continues to the outside of the "s" and you can see the bump which is the top of the "c". Furthermore, the first "c" drops down below the very bottom of the "s". The rest is in the top of the "s". On the top right in the small v made by the"s" you will see the curved edge that's the bottom of the "c". Finally, the handle on the top left of the "s" is the top of the second "c". It appears a "cc" that was punched vertical to that of the "s". Then it was punched twice with the"s" mint mark. We spent hours ona computer screen with it blown up over 6400 times to make out all the details we could. This really requires time to observe all the details and things that took place. I cannot find anything from 1878 that resembles it. I will post the picture from my 1878-cc and imagine it vertically to the "s". If anyone has seen anything close for 1878 I would really like to know. Thanks

Rather than disagree, why don't you send to the experts? ANACS has the best VAM person in the business,IMO. Or try PCGS. Can't wait to hear the results!

Sending it for grading this weekend. Heritage told me they have never seen a mint mark like this and asked me to let them know how it grades.
When I find out I will post pics in NGC holder.
I posted what I could see and hoped for some help.

I've never seen a Morgan CC mint mark narrow enough to fit under an S mint mark.

I am not certain what exactly this is but I am going off of what others told me they saw. All I know for certain is this is an 1878-S Morgan dollar that definitely has a mint error of some kind. VAM World doesn't have any mint mark errors for this year of any kind that I could find. The coin is at NGC right now and I should get it back by Saturday. Anyone who has a serious idea what this is I would like to know. Some have commented that a cc will not fit under an s but they must have forgotten that 1900 -o covers a cc and the s is roughly the same size. The hard part is trying to figure out a way to explain all the strange markings for this mint . Thanks
