I think it would grade Counterfeit.

Conder may be correct .... If so, the "wear" and abrasions may have resulted from tumbling, perhaps?
What's the weight? One of the new "ray guns" would spell out metal content.

Dentils don't look right to me. I'd worry about counterfeit, but I've been wrong before.

I agree with those saying fake on this one. Too many red flags.

I guess I'm not seeing what everyone else sees. It's a type 1 obverse and a type 2 reverse, uncommon but not impossible for an 1875-CC. I don't see anything obvious wrong with the date or lettering. There are so many counterfeit Trade dollars that this could very well be a good fake, but I'm not seeing anything that proves it's not genuine. Could someone be specific on why they think it's fake?

The concerns for me is the undefined denticles to the right of date and under dollar and the wear pattern is inconsistent. I agree the coin could be fake, but does warrant a trip to a TPG.

Quote: Note the details at Liberty's left hand. Thanks @fortcollins, that's the kind of discrepancy I was asking for, although I'm not sure whether the difference might be due to wear or the limits of the photo. I wouldn't be surprised if this turned out to be counterfeit, but I still don't think I could call it based on these photos alone.
