i just found it in my change from shopping earlier in the evening, full of scratches, dings, scuffs & fingerprints.. almost hard to see that it's a proof, but that's what caught my eye: the proof finish & mintmark stood out

interesting to note that the only two proof coins I have ever found in circulation have been quarters. I found a '71-S proof quarter a couple years ago. pretty sure I posted that here on the ccf.

Nice find - I know these as 'impaired proof' due to circulation wear

Sweet find! I've only found one proof in the wild myself.

Its an interesting find in circulation for sure. Not sure what I'd personally do with it, to be honest. I'd probably just release it back into the wild by spending it at a parking meter.

i had been keeping curious things like this, but I have a buddy who has married & had children in the last couple years, so I've been loading up their kids with birth year mint sets, birthday things, xmas things, etc., this quarter will likely go to those kids, along with a handful of other things I've filtered out of circulation. I find ways to pass along things I don't necessarily need to keep. I totally enjoy finding things, but I usually pass along a lot of what I find.

The closest I've come is finding a 1971-S Ike dollar (silver clad - not proof) in circulation.

Nice find . I got a 1972 proof Kennedy half once from a bank teller that I asked if she had any halves in her tray. I put it in a 2X2 and put it in the section of one of my binders that I call my "fun stuff and curiosity" section.
