Got this unexpected surprise in change today at Sonic.

The coin is a 1976-D Roosevelt dime, nice AU, good luster, but the reverse looks like it was a grease-filled die or struck through at UNUM. In hand you can (barely) see traces of the design underneath the flat area.

Just thought I'd share it here for all of us who enjoy such things!

Yes looks like it was a grease-filled rev die to me. Nice!

Here is an overlay:

Looks like damage from a hit or grease on the die on the obverse showing on 'IME'.

Definitely a Greaser in my opinion, not PMD - the luster, color, and texture of the struck area are not noticeably disturbed vs. the surrounding areas of the coin.

I'll see if I can put it under the scope later on for some much better close-ins!

BTW, your overlays are totally awesome and I would love to be able to do that for some of my clashes!

Yes, I love me a Coop diagram. Great showing of thee overlay. I once managed to have him diagram a nice pocket change find of mine. At that point, I realized I had 'made it'. Lol Sorry, it was a good moment for me.
Hey Paralyse, thanks for sharing. I like it.

Looks like a struck through "gritty" grease to me.
