A few things crossed my mind when I bought the 2016 1/10 gold dime commemorative. First, when these were struck were the original galvanos used to make modern working dies for the issue? I would think so, but perhaps they still have and used originals stored in the mint cabinet. What ever the case may have been, the real question is whether or not full band strikes exist. Being a proof struck coin one would think they should be. Mine shows weak bands as do all that I've seen both in hand and in high resolution images. Has any one else noticed this, or more importantly, know if they exist? ANA member - PAN Member - BCCS Member There are no problems only solutions - the late, great John Lennon

I think the dies had to be made new for several reasons including the gold dime is slightly smaller, gold is softer and the wording is different. I don't believe full split bands were designed. I never understood the appeal of FSB. Either way I really like my 2016 gold dime no matter the bands.

I wish the strike would be better to bring out the actual detail from the original, even better IF they make a high relief version.

Quote: I don't believe full split bands were designed. I never understood the appeal of FSB. Of cause they ( 90% Mercs ) were designed to show FSB ,but not often so. On a strong EDS they are usually evident . Also FSB can mean the value being increased by thousands of dollars over non SB's .

Quote: ...IF they make a high relief version At the smaller size as this is, a high relief version would be impossibly thin to strike cleanly. It would have to be a larger piece, not unlike the palladium bullion (the obverse, anyway).

I remember reading somewhere a few years ago that the full bands were purposely not done on the gold 1/10 ounce coins. Now, I can't find the article. Sorry.

Thanks all. It's not that I'm disappointed or don't like my specimen, I simply find that strange. Especially as T-Bop mentioned, when early off the dies. There's not even a hint. It would be nice if just one turned up.

one could assume that the dies for these coins, were a completely new creation, nothing would have been borrowed from the old dies other than inspiration..

I remember when these were issued that collectors here and on other forums were saying they had expected FSB, but instead it appeared there was no attempt to make the dies with FSB. After looking at posted pics back in 2016, it was lack of a better detailed design on the bands plus the smaller size that made me have no interest in owning one.
