Here is a look at the rarity of this $ 20 pickup during a choice option at a local auction: https://www.PCGS.com/pop/detail/lib...=63&ccid=701I have never done a CAC cert. before and do not know when would be the best time to head in that direction. I was undecided as to whether or not to place this in the grading forum. I ended up going here initially to gather thoughts on the extra varietal contribution over and above the basic (no variety) value of his piece in consideration of CAC worthiness... The grading forum will be my next step.

By the way my investigations came up with this also being an obverse 4 with a reverse D; PCGS would not print all of that additional detail on the slab although I did request it. Confirmation of this finding would be nice to know.

Personally, I would not find this a candidate for a CAC submission.

Just in case anyone would like to see the actual slab, here it is: Also, please weigh in on the idea of sending it or not to CAC.

What makes this coin not candidate for a CAC cert?
Or do others have opposing opinions?

I want to sell this coin but cannot find any place having this type of $ data. I have checked several auction houses including HA but came up empty. Any ideas?
I assume that the lack of financial data has to do with its rarity. In addition to some comparative pricing data to work with, I would like to know if CAC certification qualification is influenced by a rarity of a coin or not?

Another question I have regarding the mechanics of PCGS' final auction prices is why wouldn't there be a price listed for at least a retail book value since PCGS has apparently graded at least one example? Just for the record in order to make it easier, the two single 'one' digits in the attachment refer to one coin graded at MS 63 and a total of just one graded for all grade levels etc.

There are probably a lot of these not attributed so you'd have to go through the 500+ sales on HA to see if any were cherrypicked and what kind of premium they may have gotten. NGC says "These varieties, however, appear to be of interest only to specialists" which is their way of saying, it's not worthwhile to assign a separate value guide. I suspect PCGS is the same.

Brian Greer might know, not sure if he is a variety enthusiast though. If you try Fortin and Greer and still can't come across anything, I can track down some other JRCS members and ask them.

Does not have the eye appeal needed for a CAC sticker in my opinion. It is not choice for the grade, either.

Not worth the time to go through auctions on Heritage. I've tried looking for rare bust half varieties and never seen a premium on them.
