I don't know much about coins and this penny really stood out among the others so I thought I'd bring it here. Why does it look so different?

The photo really doesn't do it much justice in what I'm asking. It really has contrast in color among other pennies.

Sharper pics, please (date on the left one isn't clear), shown right-side up. Which one is normal and which is different?

Colors of cent can vary. If they are green they were affected with water. Yellow looking silver coins could be affected with sulfur in the air on the east coast states. Burned, salt, vinegar, even soda can alter colors. Even storing them in albums can alter the colors. Some turn purple colored when stored in the soft 2X2 flips from PVC damage. Color change from fingerprint marks, food grease from contact with hands. Even saliva can darken a coin. Glue is sometimes added to coins. Just so many things, but altered are not a good thing for a coin to a true coin collector.

Most likely it has been altered after it left the mint. An "off color" coin is almost never anything special.

ff-colour cents are usually caused by environmental damage, caused by a wide variety of reasons, as coop has pointed out.
