Looks like maybe the die broke on the R in liberty. The damage looks to clean to be PMD. Opinion?

oh wow! that is interesting. I am trying to imagine how that would happen. It couldn't be debris because it is too wide Maybe a die gouge between the E and the R pushed the "wall" of the "R" relief in? or maybe it chipped, but the chipped piece is still attached loosely.

I would like to see this a lot closer in view to see if it is a damaged coin or something else?

Looks like it took a ht and the metal moved.
I am seeing:
1. a gouge mark (white arrow) extending down through the interrupted area,
2. the R has a small "bump" area where the leg was attached (not marked),
3. a remnant of the original attached leg pushed to the right (pink arrow)

The rest of the leg's metal was moved to the left - again the coloring of the area it used to be is lighter.

Yes it does look like pushed metal. I was wondering it it was a broken hub issue:

Contact marks, yes. Break on hubs creates several dies with the same issue. But less often noticed.
