I am thinking of taking a leap into the micro photography world.
I am not going to want to spend much more than 100.00 but I want to get a nice picture of a total coin or be able zoom in to get the detail of an overdate or double die or RPM or over mint marks.

I envy some of these fantastic pictures our members have in the galleries and in the forum posts and I am sure I have some nice coins just dying to pose for me.

Does anyone have any particular brands and models that do a good job in this budget that you might recommend?

Thanks for your time.

WD, I would like to see the information you get , I also would love to get my hands on a stereo microscope, my eyes are killing me holding a loupe for hours and taking pictures would also be nice, although the price , I believe would be more than your figure, I think.I hope I am wrong, BE WELL, MORGANS DAD...

I use a B&L stereomicroscope which with 10X eyepieces give 7.5-30X (4:1). But to see all of a Morgan size coin, you need a scope that can go as low as 3X. By using 5x eyepieces, you can do very well. There are 0.5x reducer lens available also , but they extend the focus length so much, you have to raise the scope above the support. 30X is very good for varieties. One of the eyepieces is adjustable so you can set it up so your eyes focus properly for near/far sightedness. This way my bifocals don't screw up my looking, I just take them off.

My inexpensive Canon 590IS does an excellent job of focusing through one eypiece and self focuses properly. They last forever and many colleges surpluses them out when grants buy new ones with halogen lights and USB, but these come up every week and I have seen them as low as $100 before. Hope this helps, search B & L stereo microscope on ebay. If you live in a large metro area, check yellow pages for microscope repair places.

Thank you guys, Right now I am having to get a new tower for a PC but I am glad for the response. I suppose it is a good topic for the budget minded.
I have just been lucky to get a nice tripod and it might just help with some photography from KurtS for FREE! Whattaguy!
It should at least improve my images for now.
