Hey everyone, I am brand new to collecting and have only posted a few times. This is my first ever slabbed coin. I have a lot to learn but I have been scrolling through numerous parts of this site trying to absorb mass amounts of info..... Anyways, I would appreciate your opinion on the grade for this piece. It is the first slabbed piece I have ever bought. I will post the full pics with the grade showing from the label on Sunday in this thread. Also, any advice on how to post a closer or better pic would be appreciated. I took these from my phone and zoomed in and cropped, then posted. I also took some from my dslr and they still didn't seem as bright or white in my pics, so any advise would rock! Thanks!! Edited by chsear11 07/24/2020 9:29 pm

In the "General" forum, there is a section on coin photography with a lot of great advice.

I'm on the fence between AU-55 and AU-58 so I'll say AU 56.5. I think it probably straight graded.

I'll say AU details (cleaned).

I'm at AU55 on this one. the 78 8TF normally is sharp and bold this one is not struck to that level. the surface preservation is AVG- and a high percentage of luster is gone. the eye appeal is AVG-. it does appear that some type of cleaning occurred on the reverse, which is borderline acceptable, so I'm thinking it received the details designation

XF45 seems fair. You can see traces of peripheral luster on the obverse. That's a nice example of a VAM 7 with the VSS attribution helpful. All of the 8TF (eight tail feather) Morgans are good keepers and more difficult to find in very high grades (AU+) with a few exceptions.

Seems like a low end AU from these photos. EF-45 was very conservative.
