Just curious to see everyone's opinion. If you could only collect one coin for under $1000, what coin would you choose? For myself, I would opt for a 1909S VDB Lincoln Cent.

I would pick either a blazing white lusterous Standing Liberty quarter or Walking Liberty half common dates. Other than $20 St. Gaudens I believe these are some of the beauties of U. S. Coins. I like all the coins but some like the "V" nickel, although nice, just lacks the pizzaz looks of the others. Just my oldtimer opinion.

I need the 1909-S VDB and four others to complete my LHC collection. If I can only get one coin, I guess it would make no sense to buy this one and then leave four holes!

ahh come on, it would definitely be the only Legal 1933 St Gaudens for me. Allot of people have a 1909-S VDB but only 1 person has the only legal 1933 St Gaudens

At this stage none of the coins I need are under $1000.

Hate to say it but a 09s VDB. I really want to complete my lincolns and this would be the most expensive of course!

I would get the nicest early date Coronet large cent I could find. I really like the Classic head large cents but for the grades that I like it would be over a grand.

I would like to eventually own a 1922 no D Lincoln Cent. I figure I could get a pretty decent one for under $1,000.00.

Just out of curiosity, what is a 1909-S VDB worth through the range of grades?

Good VG Fine VF20 VF35 XF40
650.00 800.00 1,000.00 1,175.00 1,275.00 1,325.00
AU50 MS60 MS61 MS62 MS63 MS64 MS65 1,450.00 1,625.00 1,700.00 1,800.00 1,850.00 3,000.00 5,000.00

Quote: If you could only collect one coin for under $1000, what coin would you choose? What a curious question. I'd choose another hobby. Variety is key for my enjoyment of collecting; I'm normally much happier spending $1000 on 1000 different coins from the dealer's $1 scratchtray than on buying just one coin with it. If I were restricted to owning just one coin, I'd be very miserable, no matter how good an "investment" it might be.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
