It's not anything that could occur at the Mint so it has to have been put together to be used as something other than a coin. I've never seen anything like it myself though. It's pretty unusual. Bill

I believe I know exactly what it is. Used to have one as a kid..
It's a gag nickel. Look for a small hole drilled into the face of the coin - inside a letter, etc. The back of the nickel (the brass part) should press inward. Start the faucet, stick the coin in the faucet with the hole exposed to the water, squeeze the back and let go. Voila! A squirting nickel!

I defnitely had one of them and it worked pretty well. Squirts about three feet. I used to get the kids at school with it.

Well - it is a squirting nickel. I placed it in a cup of water and squeezed out the air, sure enough shot water about a foot. Thanks, still pretty cool for what it is.

*gasp* Yarmouth Maine! I love maine!
Both of my parents are from Maine! I have family/freinds all over the state, mostly in Kennebunk and the skowhegan/madisan area. My family goes there every year to visit the extended family. I'm actually hoping to transfer to a state college there.
