I'm no pro, but it looks just like the one on coppercoins. Awesome find chuckster . I've been looking for that one.

Those things are VERY rare. Too bad it's all chewed up on the reverse - just breaks my heart. If that thing were undamaged, it would easily be a $1000 coin. In that grade, maybe $100.

By the way, I know the values on coppercoins.com are way off base at this point. They are from six years ago. A lot has happened in the coin market since then.

Hi guys....This is one. In all my years of searching, I've found only two, both of which were sold.
I wish I still had them.
Nice Find..It's a shame that this one is damaged.
You may not see another for years.

Okay, I give up!! I've been looking for a 1983 DDR cent since 1983. Never found one. I've been looking for a 1984 DDO cent since 1984. I've never found one, but a guy once reported one to me that he got as the 'free' coin in one of those advertising junk mail thingys where they put a coin in the envelope so the post office wouldn't chunk it. Go figure. I look through hundreds of BU rolls, and he gets one for free in the mail. I've been looking for a 1980 DDO cent since 1984 when I learned it existed. Never found one. I've been looking since 1985 for two things that probably don't exist, but as far as I'm concerned none of the above exist either. You people are in some sort of plot to drive me insane! Anyhow, those two things are the eighth variety of 1982 cent and a 1974 cent with a 1973 reverse.

Stupid question, but what's different between 73 and 74?

Thanks Everyone! Yeah- its a real shame its pretty chewed up on the Reverse , but at least you can see the doubling on the Obverse. Thanks again for the affirmation!! *That's 2 DDO'S this past week Chuck- the 53D and now this 1980. If things supposedley happen in three's, Maybe, just maybe, I'll finally find that 99 Wide AM !

Happy for ya chuckster, great find. Don't give up on them 99s, they're out there.
mikep, 1973 has the super huge designers initials that come even with the top of the steps, 1974 has smaller initials that only reach about 3/4s to the top step.

Super Find!! I search $100 face a week from the bank in cents and I am yet to find that one. Plus, I had no idea that it was as rare as Chuck says it is. Have to step up the effort! Chuck, I've also never found the 83DDR. But, I did get an 84DDO back in 1985. Only a year old and the reverse was all chewed up! And, I have always wondered if a copper 82d SD exists. You would think that one would have turned up by now, it being over 25 years ago.

Hi,
I'm not sure what you mean about the "copper" "82d SD" you mentioned above. If you mean 1982 D copper Small date, There were more than 6 billion minted.
Thanks, Bill
