I was watching a couple of old friends in the most recent Regency auction (part of the Roadrunner collection), curious to see how they fared during these difficult times.
Immediately following the Roadrunner collection was a small group of toners, and I recognized this piece but couldn't remember where I had seen it before. Placed what I considered a very weak bid, as much to track it as anything else, and called it a night.
What a lovely surprise when I woke up the next morning, and I'd won it.

Contacted a couple of friends, and discovered that the coin is from the Hoffecker collection sale by Superior Galleries which took place in 1987. It was featured in the color plates, and on the back cover of the auction catalog as well. For me, that was pure icing on the cake.
A very unexpected addition, and one that I will treasure as I consider this piece a true moose with a wonderful provenance.

A difficult coin to image, the obverse is fully proof like.
All comments appreciated as always.
