The area above the S below the S and middle left of the S look like a gouge that has displaced metal from the divots, Kind of like a golf divot,At least that what the pictures show

@wn83, I understand that there are some areas that are now above the surface of the coin. In your pics it looks to me like there are corresponding adjacent areas below the surface of the coin. In the below pic (rotated and cropped), I have added arrows to designate areas that seem to be gouges. Maybe with the coin in hand you can confirm that this is the case. Or maybe it is just a trick of the light?

I was just being sarcastic and emulating the guy who sets up a booth and picks a controversial topic and then says prove me wrong to get persepctive. I'm glad you caught onto that jasper. Cause unless I'm a wizard or an actual alchemist, you cant add metal or devices or whatever, extra metal, to a coin that's already been minted. Unless you're an asian counterfeiter. They know.

It's frustrating to keep hearing the same questions when I've provided all the answers. If someone doesn't want to believe what I'm saying, I dont care. I like the nickel. I'm not gonna sell it. Never sold a coin I've found in my life. Not what I'm in it for. I like the process. There should be cause and effect. Not I have more posts than you

Ok well if there are no aspects of these areas that are incuse, then I am stumped.

Added: it is fine to feel frustrated, but just please watch your language. I removed a little bit that isn't appropriate for CCF.

Hopefully, at the end of this thread you (and everyone else) will have learned something.

There are no incuse areas, for the 5th time. Maybe one little area off to the side that lost a little metal cause the rest filled the empty spaces someone put in the die. On purpose. Dr. Frankenstein. FFC. I coined the term. Its trademarked. I'll sue.

Agreed - had this happen many times, but on a forum we take the "good" with the "bad." Not everyone, unfortunately, will take the time to go back through and see what has or has not been said. Others post small tidbits of about their thoughts with no explanation.

Admittedly the pics are deceiving, like you said, about this. Maybe Mike Diamond will chime in. This is a very interesting oddity for sure.

I'm not shooting down any theory. But dont just say damage and not back it up.i legitimately want to learn, not be the one who was correct on what the problem was to begin with. Even if this is what I believe it to.be it prob ain't worth the virtual ink its described on. I'm just tired of the high and mighty, know it all comments from some.of the regulars. I dont agree with coop all the time but he atleast lays out how he got to his conclusion. He asks questions about everything before he makes an assumption, no matter how valid. He doesn't like to be wrong, neither do I. I could be dead wrong about what I thi k happened.to this coin but I keep getting asked questions I've answered and given reasons that dont even make sense. I csnt learn the error of my ways people. I can atleast admit I'm wrong. Btw, it's just a coin. Prove me wrong

No one has to do this but look at my original post then look at the next 3 responses. They're basically about the areas being raised or not. We all know you cant believe what you see with your eyes all.the time, especially in pictures. Which is why we love detailed descriptions. But if you dont even give those descriptions an ounce of credence what's the point? Look at the pic and take a stab in the dark. This basically isn't about the coin anymore, its prob worth 5 cents if I'm lucky. I love to argue, dont get me wrong. I'll be happy if I'm wrong cause next time I wont be. But there are a ton of new people on here and they post something, and they get dismissed right off the bat. I'm guilty of it too sometimes. I'm just more mad about all the 55 DD's I probably threw away when I was starting out cause people didnt read my description and just auto filled MD. It's probably in the dozens

Thank you Spence btw for having a dialogue about it. I'm an idiot but if I keep answering no to questions I've already answered it goes to default die gouges and that's that. Cause I dont know any better. Maybe I dont. I know newcomers dont. Then what's the point? This nickel is listed as 2020 P FFC-001. PROVE ME WRONG LOL!

I don't think die gouge.. unless during a die change someone dropped the new die. Damage seems to concentrated in one area, very odd to have raised & incuse in the same anomaly.

Calm down everyone. That last part was a joke.... chapter one of my reply ....

Thanks for the chuckles and for bringing some levity to the forum.

(I like this coin and thread because it makes me look at it from both sides of the aisle, not just rely on my initial impression.)
Most of the areas do look raised IMHO. The raised areas are much larger than the "divots" nearby (above the "S" for instance) and with the area above the "U", the deeper area isn't a divot but actually looks like the original field from the die (in the OP's last image).

Can you please get a closeup image of the rim above the "S" and "U" without shadows? It may help show that the raised areas impact the die rim gutter and are not "resting" on the die like moved metal would appear.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
