This has to be one of my best cleanups of all time. The grime was so compacted on this one it took almost 8 months in olive oil, a wash in lye, and a harsh tooth picking to get this coin to reveal itself. Overall I am very proud with the results.

It looks like a completely different coin honestly. There were parts of the rim that chipped off and I had to find down that were flaking but everything else is original. What do you guys think?

Results like that make it all worthwhile. I don't see any signs of over cleaning. In fact, a very nice patina has remained. Well Done.

A very impressive result.

Some coins do indeed benefit from cleaning.
