I got $50 worth of customer wrapped cents (100 rolls) the other day and decided that I would share my findings with everyone. I am looking for Wheat backs, DDO, WAM/CAM and other things along the way. Green = completely destroyed by verdigris or damage. I'm not worrying about those unless they have a specific date. So far I'm just sorting everything out. 15 Wheaties out of 50 rolls . I wouldn't say that was a great score . It's certainly not what it used to be back in my days . Now there are to many CRH'ers looking for errors & varieties , so while they do that they take out all the Wheaties they find and throw them in a junk box never to be seen by the public again . Thus the poor count we are now experiencing .  |

This second box must have been sitting there for a good while. After 25 rolls, there's no wheat backs, but also none of the newer shield cents. Actually, I didn't see anything later than 2001. I wasn't looking at the dates much.
There was however, a few Canadian cents. Including one from 1936.

I remember finding quite a few wheat backs in the 90s, when I was CRH'ing back then. I hang onto them for a while, but usually end up spending them somewhere.

Okay, either that second box has definitely been sitting there for years, or it's already been searched by someone. Absolutely no wheat backs, or shield cents. The highest year I saw that time, was 2003.
Also, most of these coins from the second box, look like they're still in really good condition.

Well, if the 1936 is a "dot" variety, you would be in the money.

One of our members is 30% of the way through a project to search 1 million one cent coins: https://www.coincommunity.com/forum...IC_ID=352071The project has been stalled for some months due to Covid. Still, you may take inspiration from his efforts so far. His average wheat tally has been 4 per 1000, or about 10 per box. Edited by oriole

Hm that's a tad sad I must admit. I always generally get a good amount of wheaties (even if they are common date) out of customer wrapped rolls. Even the rolls I've gotten from the bank have had a good number as well. Varieties are the best way to go in my opinion, even if you do have a good haul of wheaties, the majority of them are just common dates.

Well, I didn't see anything in the wheat backs or Canadian cents. The 1936 Canadian didn't have the dot either.
At first I thought the 1956 wheat back might have been DDO-007 (stage C) at varietyvista, but only the broken piece of the 6 looked similar and I'm fairly certain it wasn't a proof coin. Nothing else matched up.
So now, I'm slowly going through and sorting everything out in groups of 10 years. After that I will be going by individual years. I wasn't sorting them out by mintmarks, since it should be narrowed down pretty well.
Then I will start going through each coin looking for errors.
Oriole, I was looking at the 1 million cent project and I think it would be fun. I would have gotten more boxes, but all I could afford was the 2 for now.

This is going to sound a bit odd haha. I am 99.9% sure, that the one box of coins, was the box I dropped off at the bank years ago. The rolls weren't in a Cent box, they were in a Nickel box labeled $25 in pennies. I remember loading up a nickel box with pennies and taking it to the bank around 2003-04. It was the first full box I ever took to the bank. The highest date I found in that box was 2003. I've never seen this particular type of cent roll, except for the one time that my dad gave me a bunch of them, to roll all those pennies up with. (Picture below) When I was probably 10 years old, I spray painted 2 pennies gold and pretended they were pirate treasure. They were both in that box and DO have the same dates that I used back then, because one of them was the year I was born. A GOOD 30-40% of the coins look like they've been in climate controlled storage for almost 20 years. (Picture below) There's probably less than 4,000 people that live in my town, so money wouldn't flow that quick. I highly doubt the bank would ship out a single box of pennies. They would sit there for years until they finally had a few boxes to send out. What do you guys think? Edit - I also found 1 more Canadian cent and a couple other Lincoln cents, that I couldn't read the date on. Another Edit - I have all of the pennies sorted out in groups of 10 years. Now I just need to sort them out for each year. Then I can start looking through them.   Edited by Grelko
