Can you post pics straight on of both sides? A little more light will help, too.

it is either just damage, or maybe a partial indent strike, better photos are required to be sure.

The marks on the rim obverse at 9 give the appearance of a vise..but nothing on the reverse.? maybe trying to recreate a clipped planchet? smat

Damage I think, but a close up of that area might put it to rest, from the right side of it so we can see if the reeded edge is present or not in the indention.
as far as these pictures, theres a bulge outward where this occurs, the coin has it's reeding which mean it was struck in collar, so how could this be possible without squeezing two coins together?
it's not a clipped planchet.
coin struck in collar will have reeding around it and it will be round. this is no longer round so how could it have happened at the mint?
Just trying to figure out how this could be possible at the mint, and I can't explain it so must be post mint damage.
Picture of the area, like the first one attached, but closer to the area please. the bright copper right there suggests it didn't happen in 1973 when the coin was struck also...

Note the area in question extends outwards past the rest of the edge reeds, with more reeds. The coin was altered. PSD
