I have tried searching here & there for information on die varieties on bank tokens but I can't seem to find much. I'm assuming they are relatively common & don't add much of a premium to value. Here are a few photos of an 1844 1/2 Penny Bank Token with doubling on "OF CANADA" & "OF MONTREAL". Can anyone give me your opinions on if my assumptions are correct or any added information. Thanks.

From the first photos, looked promising, but from the latter, looks like Die Deterioration Doubling, which happens all around the characters. These tokens were struck in (relatively) large numbers, and the dies were certainly run like mules. An interesting die state, but not a variety or error in my opinion.

Thank you. Upon closer examination with a 15X loupe & then looking at my not too good photos, I realized the one photo shows the base of the "A" in Montreal as being doubled but in actuality it is not. That seems to be a reflection of light. I also noticed this may not only be die doubling but tripling which cannot be seen in any of the photos. I can see three portions of the inside lower part of the "C" in Canada as well as three parts of the upper left(west) serifs of the "L" in Montreal among other indicators. Since I am a member of CONECA I suppose I will send this in, among other foreign coins, for Mike Ellis or Ken Potter to attribute. It may take awhile but I will let you know what their opinion is too. Thanks again for your reply. I didn't think about Die Deterioration, which it still might be.

The "N" in Canada looks interesting, however the photos provided is not clear enough for me to give a 100% positive confirmation. All I can say for now, is I wouldent be overly surprised if it came back as a Doubled Die.

As for value or if it is common, I have no idea as I mainly focus on Canadian small cents but my eye for DDO's and DDR's in general is fairly precise.

Also to the CCF!

For future reference, when supplying us with photos of coins in question please try to keep your photos rotated in the correct rotation. This helps us from not breaking our necks trying to look sideways
