I've been saving up a pretty good stock from coin roll hunting of coins that don't really interest me, but have catchy names that sell well on ebay (like "In God We Rusts," "snowy roofs," etc.). I would love to start putting some of these up for sale, but since the margins would likely be pretty thin, I wanted to ask people here what shipping methods you use for relatively cheap coins. |

For anything like that, low value raw stuff that I don't particularly care about if it gets lost all I do is stick a stamp on it and send it on its way

Agreed with @GrapeCollects - anything under around $30, I just ship priority post, and rarely have issues. If it goes missing, simply refund the buyer. What is more is that it is difficult to remain competitive on that platform if you start wanting to charge registered post shipping prices on small items.

Agree with @Grape. USPS first class letter is 55 cents for the first ounce. I usually add a thin piece of cardboard to make it rigid, and mark it non-machinable for a total of 70 cents. But there's no tracking, so if the item doesn't arrive, you have to issue a refund.

I agree with above. Anything under $10. I just protect from damage, ship non machinable if necessary, and write a "Thank you very much" note with it.
I look at the feedback of my winning bidder if the item I sold was over $10 but less than say, $30.
and if they have any feedback they left saying they didn't rec a shipment, I send small 1st class packet (cheap) which covers tracking. Over $30. I am not willing to lose the money.
If you sell a lot of cheaper stuff, you can expect to encounter problem buyers now and then. Just shrug it off.
The resentments are not worth it. You'll double your loss buying aspirin for headaches that causes. Blocked Bidder List them and move on.

I too have heard from many people that simply place a coin or coins on a piece of cardboard and place in an envelope and ship via USPS.

There are a few sellers based in the US who will ship to the UK for a reasonable sum. Under $5. I've never had a coin go missing and they have even got here faster than some from within the UK! It can be quite annoying browsing the listings in ebay UK and having to weed out the £10 coin being sold in the US that has a £20 postage attached - yet is still advertised on the UK version. I could of course just search UK or even European sellers - but then I'd miss the ones with a more reasonable postage. I suspect it's not the seller who is doing this deliberately but them just using a default ebay setting. I'd really like ebay to offer a "don't list anything where the postage is over £10" option. Those sellers in the US who conceal a coin in an international letter are committing a felony (customs evasion). For better or worse, USPS international postage for merchandise of any type and any value begins at about $14 for the first ounce (a little less to Canada). Buyers abroad seeking US sellers who are willing to commit a crime for the sake of a small sale should ask themselves what other crimes those same sellers may be willing to commit.

The amount of buyers who ask this of sellers brings into question
the moral fibre of the persons doing the ask!
Getting nailed by Customs for lying is just plain foolishness!

So exchanging current year coins with friends in Canada or UK is a felony?
how is that different then sending someone a few dollars in a birthday card or sending payment via PayPal which is electronic money transfer. Asking for a friend.

If you have small margins of profit remember ebays fee's(10%) and paypal charges 2.9% plus 0.30cents for transaction.
