Hello RD, I think that looks like the planchet was 1st marked with that impression, then the die struck the planchet making this a coin.I say this because it appears that the "marks" are under the die strike.NICE COIN, remember this is only my opinion. BE WELL, MORGANS DAD...
PS: IT ALSO APPEARS THAT ON 4 SPOTS AROUND THE COINS PERIMETER, AT SOME TIME THERE WAS A HEAT SOURCE APPLIED TO THE COIN.GIVING A BURNT EFFECT..

I noticed that as well morgans dad. I wanted to rule out damage on the obverse but then again, I guess those would be pretty deep and an obvious cause.

I believe this was a mounted coin and possibly a solder gun or other heat source was used. The marks are pretty evenly spaced which tells me it was mounted IMO.

Those spots don't look as if they are heat related, rather corrosion or whatever happens to copper. The pictures show them darker then they actually are.

These are damage marks put on the die. It has nothing to do with the coin, I have seen high-end BU coins with similar marks. I believe they are tooling marks of some sort...but definitely on the die. Something like clash marks, but clash marks would be elements from the obverse design, not straight lines.

If it was post mint damage don't you think that it would effect the letters?
