He may have used the Old Coin Web Image Radio Carbon Dating program also known as the OCWIRCD.App. I think it's on all of the new iPhones. Just point the phone at your monitor, click and know the exact age and origin of any coin.

Joking about the date. My OCWIRCD app isn't working at the moment. They kill you with in app purchases.

Cool find! 2x2 worthy. Worth a premium, but how much? Whatever someone is willing to pay... a 1943 Greaser sold recently for $20 and it was only missing the 4, similar condition. Might get $5, might get $50.
