You have scraped money that got run over by a car or something. Seriously, we call these "parking lot coins" for that very reason. Post mint damage, not a mint error of any sort. Spend it if you can.

For future reference, one coin per thread, please.

@bd, first welcome to CCF. Second, can you confirm that the nickel is dated 1941? If so then it would be a wartime issue and the silver composition means that it would be worth a bit over face value despite the extensive damage.

to the CCF!

It a built-in process of the human brain to try and make random patterns into recognizable shapes. It's called Pareidolia. It's like finding shapes in clouds or the Man in the Moon. It's a bit like a Rorschach inkblot. It's not a given shape and what's seen can be totally different for each person.

@Spence You're off by a year. War issue nickels started in 1942. This coin doesn't have any silver content.

In collecting coins it is better to have a nicer coin, than one that no one would take as spendable change. I prefer variety cents. Doubled dies, RPMs on Lincoln cents. I've learned what to look for on these. and I always want an earlier die state example than a later die state example. I started out at first collecting everything, but later moved in the the variety coins. If you would like to see what I enjoy, Try viewing my videos below on my signature line. They are listed in the 1-5 videos of what to collect in coins. It is an open field. At least you will get an idea as to what is out there. Each YouTube video is about 20 minutes, 2 hours total for all of them. Just look below and they are listed here.
