I found this 1998d nickel in the park one day, looked weird so I checked it out.The letters and date are MD and reduced in size, and show a widening too. But it is the mint mark, that has me wondering.I also believe, that there is "LATHE" doubling too. On the reverse it is normal.I believe in 1989, they went to the single punching, of coins making it highly unlikely a "RPM" could occur. On the top of the mint mark, it seems to be a half "D" forming, then there is a center "D" image, and then the image of the "MD" "D" is at the bottom. Also the last "T" in "TRUST" is missing it's wings, and the obverse of this coin, is grey, or clade with no nickel coating, only on the reverse.Any feed back on this coin, will be appreciated. THANKS

The last RPM was in 1989. Crop photos properly before posting please.

It could be slight Machine Doubling or DDD, but there is no way this could be a RPM. As mentioned RPMs stopped in 1989. Starting in 1990, the mintmarks were part of the design. (There were a few denominations of proof coins that the 'S' mintmark was missing on):
1998-D-Nickel,-MD,-DDO,-RPM?
1998-D-Nickel,-MD,-DDO,-RPM?
Not to be confused with the 1968 plain business strikes. Dimes didn't have mintmarks until 1980 from Philadelphia.
1998-D-Nickel,-MD,-DDO,-RPM?
There was a business strike that was missing the mintmark and a 1983-S missing the 'S' mintmark:
1998-D-Nickel,-MD,-DDO,-RPM?
1998-D-Nickel,-MD,-DDO,-RPM?
1998-D-Nickel,-MD,-DDO,-RPM?
Not to be confused with the 1971 business strikes from Philly. The nickels didn't have a 'P' mint mark on them except for the war years and after 1980.
1998-D-Nickel,-MD,-DDO,-RPM?
1998-D-Nickel,-MD,-DDO,-RPM?

Cents only had a 'P' mintmark, one year. 2017-P. Proof cents from 1936-1964 were from Philly. In 1968 they started having most proof coins with the 'S' mintmark. (exceptions to the rule were SBS proof from Philly and coins from West Point with the 'W' on them)
1998-D-Nickel,-MD,-DDO,-RPM?
1998-D-Nickel,-MD,-DDO,-RPM?
There were 1990 plain business strikes, that are normal from Philadelphia:
1998-D-Nickel,-MD,-DDO,-RPM?
But note the business strikes are not proof coins. The "no 'S'" were on the proof coins:
The 1965-1967 coins had no mintmarks. So the business strikes and the SMS (Special Mint Sets in place of proof those years) had a different strike on them:

Coop, first of all, I wont to say, I got into this coin hobby, about three years ago. I became a member to this great forum, about a year or so. When I started reading, and looking at all the posted, images, that the members posted, I notice that your opinion, carries a lot of respect. And for you to respond to my post, me being a new member, is truly an honor. When I found this coin, I hope that maybe, this could be a new discovery. But I do agree with you, that there is no way, this could be a "RPM". THANKS again for the images, you sent me. I will try to master, and post better photos, in the future.Again thanks....you "RULE"........I love this hobby..........

Thanks, but it is a community effort. I use a lot of images posted here by others. My goal is to help others see what I see on their coins. Not just giving a yes or no answer, but enabling them to see what I see. Explaining why/how/why something is/is not so that the knowledge gets out there. But always nice to hear comments. Thanks you.
