Tolerance is[was] 0.125 grams, or 2 grains for cents. Not sure about zinc cents. Accounting for the wear id say its within specs for normal.

Well within range given the wear. Damage reduces the value considerably.

Just a damaged 1920-D cent, worth less than 25 cents in this condition.

1920's cents did have some foreign planchet errors and that color does look similar. Weights were slightly higher around 3.2g though so not sure about this coin.

The coin scratch removed all collectable value to the coin, but it is a Wheat cent.

So bottom line... it's not collectible ...because it's not sellable ...because it's damaged ...even if it was struck on a wrong planchette. So I guess it's silly to have the metal composition checked. I'll put in in a flip though and keep it as a novelty ...it is hundred y/o :-) ... thanks everyone!!

I was looking for a 1920 coin and found one in my image selection that was wrong metal: But this one was a Philly example.

Little more research... Denver mint did produce planchette for Columbia 2 Centavos. Pondering again to send into PCGS to certify.

three months ago I finally decided to send it to PCGS... I was notified last night it's on its way back and my research is correct ... coin was struck on a Colombia 2 centavos blank by Denver mint that year. :-) I will post the slab when I get it back.

Congrats on your perseverance and the submission. This is a neat variety.
I would suspect they must have done an XRF metal analysis to confirm the metallic content.

Well done, I like your 'stick to it' approach on this coin. Congrats on finding a coin like this. I will love to see that slab when you get it back.
