Hey got this quarter in my change yesterday. It weighs 5.49g. Probably within tolerance, but you never know. But what could the hole in his chest be? Struck through ball bearing? Shot by bullet PMD? Let's hear what you guys think.

Looks like something I did with my BB gun when I was a kid.

MOS,

Kinda, but I would expect to see a ridge. Lack of ridge is the only reason I saw it worthy of a post.

I don't know anything about ridges. I'm not an expert, sorry.

Lots of circulation wear plus mechanical damage from a BB gun or something similar--a fun find, but only worth face value. As I recall the possibility of these things being a hardness test from the mint was debunked.

Here's an overlay animation of the coin. You can see the area that was hit by the BB is pushed out on the obverse.

Yep that is the point. @yoko has created this so that you can see that the divot on the rev lines up exactly with some smushed metal on the rev.

Mine also. LOL
Just damage to the coin. Note it pushed out on the opposite side.

BB impact early in coin's life, followed by lots of circulation wear.
