Has anyone seen this before? Think it's a mint error?

@jay, the missing inscription could be due to a grease-filled die. Any chance you can give us a really sharp close-up view of the area above the Lincoln Memorial? Thx.

close up pics of the area in question will help determine grease filled or modification post mint. If it's a Greaser, it's kind of a cool example.

While awaiting the next/better image, the area around the missing feature in question has a curious, smudge-like 'discoloration'. Curious.

Quote: the area around the missing feature in question has a curious, smudge-like 'discoloration I second that. Although the area in question is most frequently altered by real struck thru grease event , but on this coin does not appear to be 100% the cause! there are also flattened marks on the Abe's lower Jaw and Neck that maybe corresponding with the depression force from reverse.

Or it was removed. Note the roof is also missing details on that area. If the coin is normal weight 3.11 grams, then it is a Grease Filled Die issue. If the weight is less, then it may have been altered post strike. Either way not a premium coin.

My vote is for a grease-filled die. This series is known for having this problem in this area. No premium I'm afraid.

No premium even for a mint error? Seems pretty cool like someone would want it...

Hmmm, still can't tell from this pic. Not quite sharp enough to really see if the surfaces have been altered. If it is a Greaser, it's 2x2 worthy in my book, but I'd agree, no premium. Might carry a small premium if it were a mid MS. Grease fills are pretty common, so a higher % of the devices would need to be filled to carry much of a premium. You never know though, a coins worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
