First off, done with .99 cent starts. Sold 10 items to 10 different people a couple Sundays ago. One still hasn't paid me. One is complaining about shipping issues that are beyond my control.

Some of those items were BIN stuff that I made money on. Probably because the low start auctions drew attention to my items. But over all, not worth it.

I'm worried I might get bad feed back due to this situation. And I'm new to this, don't have a lot of overall feed back. So one highly negative could really hurt.

Buyer won the item on Sunday afternoon (18th). He paid for it Monday afternoon(19th). After my postal carrier had already gone by. Put it in my shared community outgoing mailbox.

Carrier picked it up Tues afternoon. My local post office processed it that night(20th). One day after he paid. So I'm well within the tolerances of when ebay thinks I should have it to my PO. They had it to the regional post office in Cedar Rapids by Wed the 21st.

He sent me a message the 31st wondering where it was. Got that on the 1st. Ebays latest update was Cedar Rapids on the 21st. But knowing the USPS site is always more up to date, I checked there. Item was checked in at the Detroit regional center the 1st. 10 days after it got to CR

Why? No clue. Ebays own site warns in the label printing area that the USPS has slowed down considerably. But on low cost items no one is goin to want to pay the $15-$20 it would take from my area to use Fed Ex or UPS, or even $9 for Priority express.

Maybe it's the flood of mail in ballots. Maybe it's the new Post Master cutting overtime. Maybe it's lots of postal employees out with the virus.

I let him know that because I print my labels from ebays site, the tracking number always shows up in the sold item details. And that ebays info is slow. And how to take that tracking number to the USPS site to get the most current info.

Also gave the same examples of why the USPS has slowed down. Only after I sent the message did I realize he's a coin seller too. And uses USPS. Although only a few coins listed and under 40 feedback.

So his message back to me was that he took my advice as condescending. He has never had a coin take more than 5 days to get there. So I must have done something wrong. Asking if I had gotten the coin to the Post office in one day? Even though I spelled that out in my email, and he could easily see that in ebays tracking.

So, long story short? If he leaves negative feedback, can I defend myself? Will ebay consider removing it. Since the timeline clearly show the post office messed up. Can I at least post a response? Which sucks because few people take time to read why you got negative feedback.

Sadly ironic part. The item he bought from me was a 1964 Mexican mint set. With the one peso coin that is 10% silver. I don't list those as silver, cause it 90% not silver. But guess who has a lot of them listed as silver. No mention of 10%. I'm sure he'll resell what he bought from me with a misleading listing. And yet I'm the one who could end up with the negative feedback.

BTW, anybody know if ebay has regulations on silver percentage? Can he list those as silver?

If they have silver in them you can list them as silver. If I was listing them I'd put silver in the title.

Once it enters the mail stream it is out of your hands. Amazes me how some Buyers think we are psychic and somehow know "where" their missing package is. I just tell them they have access to the exact same info I do at usps.com.

What you are experiencing is just part of dealing with people online —-especially ebay. It goes with the territory.

Can he leave bad Feedback? Yes
.
Can/will ebay remove it if you complain? Maybe, all depends, worth a try.

Do not make any refunds until ebay "cocks the hammer".

Give it a few more days and be as patient as you can! Good luck!

If the package made it to Detroit yesterday, he'll probably get it this week. If you're cordial and perhaps check in with him to confirm he received it after tracking shows that it arrived, I doubt he'll leave negative feedback. But even if he does, you did nothing wrong, and I imagine ebay would be willing to remove the feedback.

Anybody else who can think back to when ordering off a cereal box would take 6 to 8 weeks for delivery? And the post office lost things on a regular basis? Now 99.9% of what we order and send gets where it's supposed to be in a relatively short amount of time. They have made vast improvements. I get the feeling this guys a little younger. Since he's selling a lot of video games and controllers.

Item is out for delivery and I set a txt alert at USPS so I know when it's delivered. Will check with him nicely, like Zurie suggested.

Thanks for all the input.

Well he gave me positive feedback, because the coins were nice and he got them for a good price. And he admitted I did what I was supposed to do. But he couldn't resist getting one last remark on the shipping.

Well, could have been worse. At least it won't hurt you. Now it's time to see if he's going to flip your coins!

Funny you should mention that. I just got on to post this. Here is a part of his last message to me.

"But you said this thing is worth maybe $10 and I don't think that's the case it's probably worth what I paid I have 5 of the silver pesos and people at coin shops and even the gold and silver buying store has told me they don't even want them because their content is so low the only real reason I bought this is for my sons maybe 50-60 years from now it'll be worth something"

And 2 minutes later, on his site at $10. I actually feel sorry for the guy. If he had to all that time and effort to turn a coin set for $6 profit. Maybe he lost a job or something. But that doesn't excuse him taking his bitterness out on me with something that was clearly the USPS fault. And not even really their fault when you factor in the pandemic and all the mail in ballots going out and coming in last week.

But definitely done with 99 cent starts and selling low cost coins on ebay. Unless I combine a bunch. I would have sooner donated these coins to Goodwill than go through all this hassle.

Oh, and he threatened to never buy from me again. Which is true 'cause I already blocked him.

A few things I've learned over the years selling on ebay.

It takes the same amount of time to list/sell/pack an item that will make a $500 profit as it does an item that will make a $2 profit. You need to decide what your time is worth & don't sell anything that won't make enough profit to justify the hassle.

Once an item is in the shippers hands there's nothing you can do. If the shipper has delays you are responsible & can get negative feedback. More importantly, if the shipping time doesn't meet ebay's criteria you get a defect. Get enough of them & they can/will take away your selling privileges....& they don't care if the delay is the shippers fault.

Keep any communications with buyers short, polite, & to the point.

OP, the delay way probably caused by a mix in with all of those 4am mail-in ballots

I'd just not worry about it. As long as you do the right thing, some people will always be happy and a select few will not
