In an ebay grab bag, I got a 2003 S proof nickel (estimated pr65/pf65) with an 18 degree rotation on the reverse. I'm having trouble finding the value of rotation errors. Can someone help me?

to the CCF!

If a coin has only 18° rotation it may not add any value. Most error collectors seem to look for at least 45° to 90° of rotation before it's thought of as an error.

Yes, rotation errors need to be 'significant'. Sadly, there is no chart which assigns value to '[insert number here] degrees of rotation'. Like most things, the wilder, the better. You could check ebay for sold/completed listings for die rotation errors.

How do you know the rotation isn't on the obverse?

Mild rotation happens during die clashes. Most prefer 45 degrees+ for these. Mild rotation is common to find.

As stated already, 45 degrees or more BUT I feel it needs to really be 90 degrees or better to get interest, and the more the better up to 180 degrees rotation.
I mean 45 degrees is like 1:30 on a clock, 90 is 3, 6 is 180. the 1:30 rotation isn't that big a deal or that far out, 18 degree is barely noticeable.
15 degrees rotation is mint tolerance, so if measured accurately it's barely out of tolerance.

There is no price chart for it or "rule of thumb" as far as value, it swings wildly but a lot of it is connected to the rarity of the coin to begin with, and then the grade, and then the rotation is icing on the cake making it a unique piece.

It's gotta be pretty dramatic though, a few degrees isn't going to do anything.
