Pretty much face value mate. The dollars are not silver,if you look at the edge you'll see its cupro nickel. Never seen a gold quarter.

Quote: I have some silver dollars .. with a moon and liberty bell This is a bicentennial Eisenhower dollar and is only worth about a dollar Quote: I have some silver dollars with an eagle landing on the moon. This is the same type as above but not a Bicentennial coin, so it was made somewhere between 1971-1974 or 1977-1978 (because the bicentennial dollars were minted in 1975-1976). Also worth about a dollar Quote: I have a quarter.. it IS GOLD .. not from wear.. its a really shinny gold says 2004 florida gateway to discover on it This sounds like a gold plated 2004 Florida State Quarter and really has no numismatic value but you may be able to sell it for a dollar or two on ebay if you are lucky Quote: have some dollar coins that have james monroe on them.. and some with an indian lady The James Monroe is just a Presidential dollar that the mint started producing in 2007 by the millions. They mint 4 different presidents each year in the order that they served as president. The Monroe Dollar is one of the 4 minted this year and you can get them from the bank by the rolls for a dollar a piece The "Indian Lady" gold dollar is a Sacagawea dollar and they started minting them in 2000 and are still minted today and it may be worth 1-3 dollars on ebay according to condition Welcome to the Forum

Quote: i kept the bi centinniel coins too I think just about everyone did, that's why they are so plentiful in great condition Quote: thank you so much for answers to these questions. sorry they were so stupid I have always said the only stupid question is the one left unasked. If you don't know, there is no way to find the answer unless you ask. That was what this forum was created for, so everyone could learn from each others experiences in the hobby. We all started from the beginning and knew nothing about coins at one time in our lives also so never feel like you are beneath anyone else just because they may have known the answer to something you didn't, you can be sure you know the answer to something the other person has no idea about.

Well, check the large dollar coins for a small S between the date and the face. Those ones are made of 40% silver and are worth somewhere between $4-6.

You have some nice coins for a modern collection but as I was told when I started collecting. I would go for coins dated 1900 or below, but thats just me even though I do have several coins from 1914 to 1900 If you do not have much money then the Peace dollars are a nice area that is good and most of the time not that expensive (except for the 1921 Hi 1928 and 1934) The gold quarter is one of those Franklin mint deals thats just plated gold. Kind of like the new 1929 Indian head half eagle they are advertising on tv right now. Avoid anything like that. Its not worth what you pay for it

If you want a quick tutorial on coins. I would recommend watch a few of the videos I have produced on the subject. I will link them below. The hobby is a lot fun and unlike other hobbies you just do not throw your money away (no pun intended..lol) Spare Change Ep01: Coin collecting do's and dont's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03kuXf0x1QgSpare Change Ep02: The Morgan dollarhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00m2BePa0WgSpare Change Ep03: The Liberty Head Double Eagle $20.00 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOfOKDD-rakThere are some great books to read too. "The Coin Collector's Survival Manual" Scott Travers "A guide Book of United States Type Coins" David Bowers The guide book give you all the US coin types and would help you identify each of the ones you have. You might want to look at the RedBook too for prices Hope all that helps you out and have fun with it. Its a piece of history!

They are worth a lot if you like them and they spark enough interest to begin educating yourself and collecting coins. I am sure there are a lot of people on this forum who were fascinated by a coin early on that was not worth more than face value but it caused them to ask a question which led to another and another. I liked the Ike (Eisenhower) Dollar and it has led me down a path were I continue to learn more about the history of coinage and can appreciate a worn War Nickel as much as I can a new silver eagle.

Welcome! Like others have said, check for a small "s" mark on the front (obverse) of the dollar. Silver does make it into circulation. Glad you are here!
