I know, I know....EVERYBODY thinks they have the "rare" variety...This one has the markers too from what I can see. Opinions?

Markers aside, I don't think you'll get overdate money without the lower half of the "8" showing the crucial cross stroke.

Looks like it could be genuine, but I agree it's not as desirable as one with a clear date. Still quite valuable if you can get it authenticated by PCGS or NGC.

Would be a shame if sent to a TPGS and it came back as a just 18S.

Could you show us photos of the entire coin? It's got the die clash E at the right knee, and the upper loop of 8 looks right, so I think there's a good chance you could get it authenticated.

Looks pretty good to me. Very nice! TPG authentication would be next step. -CH27

Needs to be authenticated and slabbed.
ANACS would be quick and reasonably priced.
Full pictures of both sides would help us to help you.
From what little I can see it might be VG8. Full pictures might render a different opinion.

The inner upper half looks correct, but the outer top half seems to be missing the flatness that the upper portion of the 7 causes ( at least from these pics at this angle) It looks a bit to rounded. As CF said that lower half of the 8 also seems to be missing the lower portion of the 7, seems a bit too circular. If that wasn't too confusing HA. I'm leaning a bit more towards no, but additional pics might be beneficial. And as others stated, send it off to a TPG.

As far as I know, this clash mark from the E in EPU on the reverse is only found on the overdate in 1918-S SLQs. I would definitely send this in for grading and authentication, and I would probably go with PCGS.

@ Zurie, did a quick ebay search for non overdate 18s and the first 4 all had the same clash. The newest pic does look a little more promising as far as the inner portion of the top and bottom loops on the 8. Bottom loop does look more filled than in the first image, could just be the wear. The top still seems to be missing the flat spot created from the top of the 7. Worth sending in, but I'm still skeptical.

@Ty2020b, I just did a quick search on Heritage, and I found the clash on 4 of the first 10 non-overdates. Good to know--I guess I'll take it off my list of diagnostic markers! I still think it has a good chance of being authenticated.

Still has promise even with the heavy carbon spot by Miss Liberty's left knee.
Still think it has VG 8 possibilities ....especially if the carbon spot can be mitigated.

@Zurie, About the same ratio I found as well. Now we both know. Had never noticed it myself until you pointed it out and piqued my curiosity.
