Wow unusual 1970 D with a diameter close to a dime. Thin width and weight of 2.5 grams. Six pics first two shows obverse of coin sitting on a shield penny for size check. Third pic is obverse, forth and fifth show reverse shifted top to bottom to show full face. Six pic is thin coin top shield penny bottom to show width. I think it's a foreign planchet! What do you think? Regards

Might be a dime slug, a penny trimmed to the size of a dime in order to fool vending machines, public phones, etc.

Looks like the outer edge was cut off the coin. Possibly by a round chizel? Looks like it was cut from the reverse to the obverse. Probably as mentioned to create a dime from a cent. For what purpose? TO by sodas from a vending machine.
On this one below, you can see that it pushed the one side and it was reduced on that side with the cut side not smooth.

Also from the same time period and probably for the same purpose.

here's a 1969 LMC I found years ago that's the size of a dime, I suspect some sort of mechanical punch trimmed the edges off
