This is my latest acquisition (thanks KYCopper for pointing it out to me  ). Absolutely love the strike, color, and luster on this one. Looks amazing in hand. Was initially debating on a 1) Reholder with NGC 2) Crossover with PCGS or 3) crack out and submit to PCGS. I'm now down to options 2 and 3, Crossover or crack? The only visible mark I can see is on the cheek next to the lips. There is one other mark on the cheek that is a polish line, along with the polish lines next to the hairline. The fields are immaculate. No visible marks on the reverse. All hairlines and scratches are on the holder. I feel the only thing holding this back from a 67 is the reverse planchet issue (pre strike). Honest shot at 66+ in my opinion. I would certainly take this coin over the 2 MS67 plate coins PCGS has listed. Any and all opinions welcome!    |

Gorgeous coin! I think that mark at the mouth and the reverse rim defect might keep it from a 67. I don't think I could bring myself to crack out an MS-66 large cent! I'd favor a PCGS crossover with a minimum grade of 66. There's no downside then.

I had seen this one as well, me and KY had talked. It looks much better in your pics than the seller pics, had he put these types of pics, it'd have been long gone. Oh well. I don't think it's worth crossing, but an incredible coin.

Beautiful coin, looks rock-solid for the current grade. PCGS seems generally reluctant to upgrade crossover coins. My only upgrade successes have been from cracking the coins and sending them in raw. That of course creates a risk of a downgrade. It does seem unlikely this exceptional cent could grade less than a 66.
If you would be satisfied with a PCGS 66 the safe course would be a crossover submission.

@Grape, does look much better in hand! Was actually pretty lucky this one made it in. Box showed up shrink wrapped with a hole in the end. Bubble wrap and packing peanuts gone, just the slab! Thanks USPS..... Quote:

The safe bet is definitely a crossover. And while I'd be totally ok with the current grade, I think part of me will always wonder what it might have gotten had it not been already slabbed. I think there is minimal risk either way on this one coming back less than the current grade....famous last words... Might be too much of a risk taker  |

Why not try to bean it? I mean its nice and if CAC says no bean you are only out the cost of that. It could also come back CAC gold?

Why not try to bean it? KY brought that up as well. I'm not a big CAC advocate to be honest, but mostly bc the holder has taken some hits. Nothing cracked through, but there was some damage sustained in shipping, so it's going into a new holder regardless. |

@Ty, if you decide to CAC it let me know. I have a membership so I can submit it, but because CAC is very pissy about handing out your CSN you'd have to be comfortable with sending it to me.

Well, its done. Decided to go big and crack it. Still couldn't quite capture how consistent the luster is. Will post results when they're in.   |
