I found this cent on ebay and just can't figure out what happened to it. I can't imagine how this could have possibly happened at the mint, so being struck with a soft die is the only explanation I can think of, anyone else have any ideas? Maybe a pivoted die error? Possibly double struck? Not too sure on this one lad, doesn't resemble any error I've ever seen

Has a Strike Through look to me. Strange that it affects both sides. I'm interested to hear what the experts say.

Yeah, but the strike through doesn't explain the clear doubling I see, so I maybe an expert will know.

Another thought I had was that maybe it was a slightly uncentered broadstrike that managed to get a second strike in collar? Could explain the rippling affect that appears in the obverse field, but that doesn't explain why theres no apparent doubling on the reverse, also I would think that if something like that did manage to happen, it wouldnt look so uniform

Counterfeit comes to mind. The bust/face doesn't look right and FG is out of place.

Struck at a slight angle by a counterfeit die on the obverse while the reverse rested on an unyielding surface.

Interesting one, I like the idea of a second strike. Note the horizontal striations on the obverse, which suggest counterfeit die.

Mike is correct (as usual). It is made from a soft die. Why doe we say that? Because only that one area is affected and weak. The reverse is just seeing damage. If this were double struck all the die areas would affect both sides of the coin.
