Hi guys

First post here. Usually over at the stamp forum but have recently had a renewed interest in coins.

I notice a piece of raised metal near where the arrow is pointing
Is that something from the plate when it was minted?

Thanks

@mike, first welcome to the coin side of things! Second, yes that is right though--during the striking process, a disk of metal is squished between the dies and the metal flows into the deepest parts of the design. When the die has a crack in it, the metal will preferentially flow into that crack and the result is a feature that sits proud to the surface of the coin.
