I just noticed the hairlines on obverse/reverse. Yes, this did straight-grade. In hand those hairlines are not obvious.

Those look like striation marks. I'm going 65+

I'll say strong MS-65 as well.

The faint lines shouldn't impact the grade too badly. Sign me up for MS-65. This coin can join the estimated 225,000 other examples of the date that grade 65 or higher. No shortage of gem 1881-S Morgans!

Well, after re-examining this coin under a decent light, I can say for certain that I'm lucky this didn't go Details. Those lines are not die polish lines and are signs of something abrasive going against those delicate fields and onto the cheek. Those line crisscross in spots. Otherwise, the coin is quite gorgeous with semi-PL surfaces.

Prethen...give us 24hr please to respond
typical sharp strike for this year. with the cheek abrasion and less than perfect surface preservation I had it at MS64. a little too much light as its washing out the coin and difficult to determine broken luster and other marks/abrasions on the coin

I think 48 hours is about the right length of time to wait so everyone can chime in.

What's going on from P to across the forehead? I can see it in both images.
