Backstory: Purchased this slab from ebay and looked at the nice photos, and was not sure why it was selling for such an affordable price? Now I know, do you also agree that what is on the obverse is a huge deduction for an otherwise great coin, Full Steps no less.

I'll hop along with the frog and say MS66.

Is that a scratch on the obverse? And PCGS Detailed it? Hope not. Otherwise very nice - I guess without the scratch it would go MS66 like stated.

Solid MS65FS. Maybe even a 65+. Very nice example of a solid full steps. I've sent in many Jefferson nickels to know PCGS is very tight to go from MS65 to MS66. Or more properly stated, I've been disappointed too many times for what I've sent in for grading thinking I had 66 but came back 65.

The only issue I see is the staple scratch through Jefferson's hair . Nice FS MS-65+ .

Hmm, either the lack of mint luster or the scratch , or both .

MS65 would have worked for me. I like the toning (assuming the photos have captured the coin's appearance accurately). Is that a die crack on the reverse--ST in STATES? What do you think the linear feature is running through Jefferson's hair (wig)--die crack, or scratch?

Thanks everyone for the posts, this grade taught me a lot. That scratch is not incuse which is surprising as I too thought it was a staple scratch, I will confirm under a 10X objective using a system Ray built for me specific for variety shooting and stacking. Also, the die crack on US, I will also check, as I did not even notice that, does anyone think the MM has action there?

Too, what's that feature between the E and T on WE TRUST--stain? Other?

Wow, @ijn1944! I think you helped identify what the scratch may be. It may be a piece of string, not a scratch, possibly a die crack. That white line is elevated, not incuse, it breaks of into two like a Y around 2 o clock from the ear. The spot between E and T is possibly the end of the string and whatever debris it is. If you follow the dot and the white line, it is either a die crack of a piece of material in the nickel itself. How do you crack open a slab, I'm going to take this under a macrophoto set up. This is getting cool!
