Can This Really Be Uncirculated 1979 Mint Set?

Yokozuna Pillar of the Community United States 4618 Posts	Posted 12/28/2020 1:24 pm to the CCF! This type of packaging is not airtight so the coins can tone, haze and discolor. It also could have been that they were handled incorrectly when they were package. I bought about a dozen 50s Proof Sets over my years of collecting that had major sulfur spots and discoloration. I'm not sure if they were stored in a way that caused them to turn, but I feel that was the problem. ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! ijn1944 Bedrock of the Community United States 19216 Posts	Posted 12/28/2020 1:36 pm Sadly, uncirculated coins in mint packaging can 'turn'. I've had hundreds of packets over the years, and what you're seeing is not uncommon. Many are in quite nice condition, and others look cloudy, with some less-than-pleasing toning now and then. Earle42 Bedrock of the Community United States 10044 Posts	Posted 12/28/2020 2:44 pm Since the coins in these sets are just pulled from the normal circulation strikes at the mint and packaged, technically these are uncirculated - never used in circulation.
