I just inherited/was gifted another coin collection from my family. Included was a nearly complete set of circulated Walker halves, and Mercury dimes, but alas none of the key dates. Also complete sets of circulated Franklin half dollars and silver Roosevelt dimes. There was a set of Lincoln Cents minus the keys, but including several semi-key dates in XF condition. Also four Liberty nickels, a number of dateless or partial date buffaloes with a few later dates in better grades, and a number of 90% silver Washington quarters.
Included with the coins was a booklet titled "Premium Guide Book For Appraising and Selling Your Coins" published by Harco of Chicago. It includes United States and Canadian Coins. There is no publication date, but it is obviously published before ANA Grading Standards came into use. Except for Gold coins all the US denominations are listed with prices for Good or Fine. US gold coins are listed either in VF or Uncirculated. It is really fun to look at the prices listed. Even given seventy years of inflation the prices are ridiculously low. A 1916-D Mercury is $30. A 1795 Gold Half Eagle is $85, 1877 Indian Head cent is $35. I was impressed at the admonition at the front of the booklet and repeated at the end that stated: "NEVER CLEAN A COIN! Your coins will bring higher prices if left in their present state." If only more of those early collectors had heeded that advice. At least my Aunt and Uncle did. None of their collection was cleaned.
I left behind, because I could not carry any more on the plane, a bag of circulated Morgan and Peace dollars. I didn't have time to check the dates. That will have to wait for later.

Awesome! Quote: Included with the coins was a booklet titled "Premium Guide Book For Appraising and Selling Your Coins" published by Harco of Chicago. I hope none of those coins are in the early Harco Coinmaster albums with the PVC pages! Quote: As long as nobody had to die for you to get it, it sounds great Agreed.

Wow...a bunch of nice memories too! And who knows what might lurk in those "dateless" Buffs? Quote:I left behind, because I could not carry any more on the plane, a bag of circulated Morgan and Peace dollars. That sure must have been interesting going through airport x-ray and security.

Airport security was interesting. I got a private screening, but had to unpack everything. I am loved I guess. Two collections given to me and although nearly ninety, both loved ones are still alive and mentally sharp. The albums were the old blue Whitmans, no Harco albums. I don't think that other than the silver value that this collection is worth a whole lot, but it was fun going through it before putting it away in the bank box with the rest of my coins. I forgot to mention that there was a complete Jefferson nickel set as well.

You are correct of course. No plans to sell it. Maybe someday I will complete the Mercs and WL sets. Thanks JBuck. I was just kind of reacting to the wow you SCORED comments that make me feel kind of sad. Value is not all monetary.
