Hello! I am not in the market for one at the moment, but I like looking at these coins, as I think the rays on the reverse look amazing with good toning. This coin looks pretty, but the seller, who advertises it as uncirculated and asks over 1000 USD for it, seems to me to be overgrading it. In my inexperienced opinion I think it is more AU(53). I see some wear on the eagle's beak, neck, left leg, and even some on the wings! What do you guys think? The toning looks gorgeous, but this does NOT seem uncirculated to me.

The pictures were too difficult to upload here, so I just put a link to the coin's listing itself.

This was cracked from an AU-55 holder I believe. I remember around 2 years ago seeing a coin that look the exact same in an AU-55 holder on the bay.

It is a nice looking coin, with classic album toning. There is no way I would ever pay for a coin like that NOT in a slab as Mint State. Too easy to have wear hidden on it with the toning. Now in hand at a show that is another story I do trust my own grading enough, but not from some photo online. I'm 100% with Grape that is AU55 all day, though I can't say if it's a crack out, the look is similar to many I've seen, 1853 rays in AU have also been trending downward in price to me it's priced at least $600 too much and probably even more.

My opinion only of course.

the coin has great eye appeal and surfaces are very nice on this piece. I think its AU55 all day and pushing 58. I dont believe its uncirculated but a nice coin and way overpriced

As others have stated, a no problem AU55, maybe even a technical 53 in hand with a boost from the reverse. But with obvious broken luster on the reverse high points, it's not MS. The reverse toning is very appealing.

Seller looks to have a number of other overpriced "uncirculated" examples that are clearly AU. Doubt they'll be reasoned with, but who knows.

It looks like a nice high AU coin, and I agree it's overpriced. But he accepts offers, so it may just be an anchoring tactic to start a negotiation. He actually has a similar NGC-graded AU-58 coin that's listed in the same price range, also overpriced.

PCGS coin facts has this AU-55 priced at around 425.00 and 650.00 in AU-58. If I were to buy this, Id offer the seller at most 300.00 for it.
