Hello all!

So you might've noticed I've been posting like crazy, and that's because I was organizing my coins throughout the day.

It took quite awhile, around 6 hours or so!

So, I'm just going to do a little walk through of what exactly I did.

I had 4 binders to use, so I decided to break up my collection. First binder was varieties that have been confirmed, which is my main collection. The second are errors, and the third is full of coins which I haven't had time to look through, but I know for a fact are a variety, or ones that are unlisted/need to be confirmed by Wexler or another attributor.

None of my coins are organized by year, but by decade. Organizing the variety coins by year isn't efficient as I'm planning in the future to get far more coins. I don't have enough variety coins to be able to organize them by year without wasting my time. So I stuck to decade. Each page is dedicated to a decade, and a variety, either RPMs or Doubled Dies. If I ran out of space on one of the pages, like on the 1950s RPMs, I'd simply just add another page and continue from there.

Here's a photo of the variety binder:

As you can see, they are out of order when it comes to year, but they are all from the 1960s. I had to make several pages when it came to the 1960 RPMs, and barely any of them were duplicates.

In total, not including duplicates, that binder holds 213 variety coins, around half RPMs, and half DDO / DDRs.

It goes from 2019-1909 (luckily I have a 1909 VDB DDO-002).

Moving onto the next binder, which is full of errors. Each type of error or die event had their own section. Laminations were the first section, then came die chips that are actually significant, then Retained Cuds, then Interior/Retained Die Breaks, then Strike Throughs, next Off Centers, then Clipped Planchets, then WAMs, and finally, an Oddball category which has things like Trial Dies and Broadstrikes.

This is the first page:

In total, 156 coins.

The next and final binder is the smallest, and has the unconfirmed DDOs/DDRs, and RPMs. These are ones I both need to look through and identify, and send off to Wexler's.

In total, there are about 127 coins.

Well, there you have it!

Thanks for reading!

Awesome! But shouldn't WAMs and trail dies be under varieties, not errors?

Thank you all so much and I'm glad you enjoyed reading it!

Haha John, I plan to have thousands of coins eventually! Maybe you'll get a little bit of it in the future

Sam you are correct they are varieties, but that specific binder is dedicated to RPMs, DDOs, and DDRs.

For the time being they'll remain in the error binder. Most likely eventually I'll have to split things up, putting die events in one binder, errors, in another, and variety coins that aren't your generic variety in a final one.

Nice! I am hoping to improve my organization as well. Need to buy a few additional slide boxes so I can separate by denomination and errors from varieties.

very nice SilverCents

i think I changed my method of organizing two or three times already.
i havent committed to any thing and just throw RPMs in one 2x2 box and doubled dies in another 2x2 box. but before they go in the box I take pictures so if I find that same variety, I can pull up that picture and tell if I got an upgrade saving the time of digging it out and comparing.
duplicates go in other boxes.

Really nice collection and organizing. I've actually done the same. Decades are the best was to go. Doing by year means needing to move coins. Do you have another binder with list of what is in a binder? I needed to number each coin and page it's on. That helps me because of lack of memory because of what I've just looked at a couple minutes ago (lol).
Are those just for Lincoln's? Any other binders for other coins?

Again very nice.

Thank you levelsofmadnes! That's certainly one way to go! As long as you have photos you should be in the clear!

Glad to hear it Rob! Indeed that was my mind set. Until I get to a point where I can space out each variety listing, (which might be years and years), I might just stick to this method. I do not actually, though I might want to get on that. Once I have more inventory that might be a goal of mine. They're mainly all just Lincoln's except for a few oddballs out there, such as an Indian Head cent having half of the reverse being a massive lamination, along with a couple quarter DDRs. I don't use binders for my other stuff, which is collecting silver and collecting graded toned cents which are just stored in a PCGS slab box.

Cheers TCD!
