I only had a few bucks but wanted to do something so I went to play pool but when I asked for change to play I got a hand full of this so I couldn't bring myself to spend them. Wish I could ask for an entire roll but couldn't afford it. Hard decision to make? I don't think so

Not sure if I'm missing something? What did you find? I'm seeing 8 run of the mill, average circulated states quarters

I'd be the same way, My2cent. I enjoy collecting coins.I'm not a buy the best collector due to financial restraints. Those that collect more expensive coins and find our part of the hobby a waste of time shouldn't discourage us with comments.

I don't think anyone is trying to discourage fellow collectors, it's just that it's rare to get a quarter in change that isn't a state/territory/ATB quarter.

What you have--given the photo posted--are common State Quarters (at least those coins where the reverse is shown). If you like them, keep them. Having said that, know that they are very, very common. When I get change--which is increasingly rare these days--I do eyeball them, quickly.

No words of discouragement meant here either. I personally enjoy a number of aspects of the hobby. If you find it enjoyable, go for it!
I always check my change, but if it's something to be found every other day, it's just change (to me).

Ty2020b—I now know it was your well-heeled great grandfather who kept spending all those little Barber dimes, wearing 'em down flat for financially frugal people like me to collect later. Your ancestors, wasn't it? Heathens! Maybe it it was My2Cents' ancestors who squirreled away those $100 dimes that I covet today! Out of my budget range for a full set, even for what was once common! All kidding aside, while I don't see how it could happen with modern mintage figures, it is interesting to think about the common work horse coinage of the past that wasn't saved is often comparatively scarce and pricey now in higher grades.

They are State Quarters but they are in very good condition. I know that most people don't collect them because of value but I think they are pretty cool. Since I can't afford to pay for an uncirculated set I have been looking for the best examples of each one.

My2cent, You might come closer to pulling off an uncirculated set than you think. Right before Christmas, I bought an uncirculated set of State Quarters in an online auction, P&D mints, for $40 (shipping and buyer's premium figured in). So, $40 for $25 of quarters in a fancy binder. I might even upgrade a few that have spots or toning I don't like. At those prices, one can afford to be picky! And if overpaid, the damage cannot be more than $15, right? Also, I only lack one more set of five silver proofs to complete that set of fifty State Quarters. Most of those have been purchased from a little below to a little above their silver melt value. I like seeing the designs in the shiny white metal! When I get the last set, all ten mint cases are going to get cracked open, then the coins will be dressed in that black tux (a black Capital Plastics holder) I have waiting. I don't normally crack out proof sets, but I will this time. I have most of the clad proofs, but I haven't been chasing bargains in those as hard after I committed to the silver proof set. Of course, that one costs more, but that is mostly because of the silver value. What I am trying to say is, you can make some nice State Quarter sets for less than what I have tied up in individual coins in my Dansco 7070 type set. They are common enough to be affordable. I'll seize that opportunity!

I have an almost complete set of State Quarters in what I as an amateur consider to be in a higher than average quality grade. I have never purchased a coin. They're all found in circulation. I think that's the fun in it.

@ Numiscrat, could be possible! My great grandfather immigrated to Chicago from Italy with a large family and was relatively poor. My grandmother told me many a times how hard he worked to put food on the table and how much their once a week trip to get ice cream was a luxury!! So any money that passed through that mans hands wound back out in circulation for sure..... and very possibly in someones collection out there! I have two states quarter sets, one from UNC sets, the other from circulation. The later definitely being more enjoyable as well to assemble, and still sometimes upgrade.
