B found this 1985d quarter and it looks rusty,
Weight is 5.42 seems a hair smaller then a quarter and maybe a hair thinner, thank you for your feed back! So do coins rust, and also under the rust the coin looks almost a shinny silver black

I'm guessing just environmental damage. Possibly buried at one point.

Not rust in the sense of iron--hydrated iron oxide. Agree with the above, likely spent some time in the ground--environmental damage.
