

Note on a doubled die with
Machine Doubling, we see the full hub doubling on the centers of the devices, but the
Machine Doubling is just in one direction:

Note the hub doubling on these 4 different coins. We see the spread in the centers of the devices. But now note the yellow arrows? That is where the
Machine Doubling altered the devices after the strike, a found in the same direction, but differently on each coin. So
Machine Doubling is not the same as a doubled die. On a doubled die, the doubling is on the die, but
Machine Doubling is caused by the machine, even on doubled dies. In fact
Machine Doubling was very common on cents on the 1968-1972 cents. Hope this helps?
