I found this coin in BC back in 1996 , thought it was very different. I found another in change when in Montreal 1998. I would be very interested if there are any more out there as I would think as I found 2 there must be a lot in circulation.

I look forward to all comments.

I'm not an expert on Canadian coins, but this looks like it was struck by an over-polished die. If the dies are damaged from clashes, scratches, or anything else, mint employees may polish the flaws out of the die, which raises the fields on the coin and can obliterate lower parts of the devices.

It kind of looks fake, note how the legend "D.G. REGINA" is a lot further away from the rim and beads, and then look at how close the legend "ELIZABETH II" is to the beads and rim.

Not only that looks to be missing the "D.H." on the queen's shoulder as well.

I could be wrong, but I also wouldn't be surprised. What is the weight?

This looks like the well known 1990 counterfeit loonie to me.

Thanks Randy. Those photos of the loon with the detached and sick-looking bill from 5-6 years ago is a dead ringer for the coin in this thread!
