This is not my coin, but felt compelled to post for opinions of Error or Damage. I have my own feelings of the condition of this coin, but I do not wish to hinder any opinions. I am eager to get as many opinions as possible.

If you want as many opinions as possible, they will all be the same.
Just a heavily damaged coin.
It is only an error if it happens during the striking of the coin and there is no
way that could happen at that time.

Very damaged quarter--damaged post strike. This coin looks remarkably like a damaged quarter posted within the last week or so. I'll look for it.

Follow-up: Took a few moments to perform a hasty search of past posts and found many quarters in similar distress--but not this particular year/mint. Such rough post-mint damage begins to look the same coin-to-coin.

From the looks of it I would guess this spent some time in a kitchen garbage disposal.

Thank you for the replies. I was sure you all were going to have the same opinion of Post Mint Damage just the same as I had tried to explain to the owner of this coin. No matter the explanation, and my lifelong experience in Numismatics, they still believed it to be a mint error coin. I had also invited them to become a member of this forum to get other experienced opinions.

We get members like that now and then. The only way to convince them is to have them spend the money and send it to a grading company that they trust.
