Looks fake to these tired old eyes.
The date and font size looks kinda suspicious as does the damage on the shield and the eagle's breast.

It looks real to me. Take it to a coin dealer for a determination. There's some heavy damage to the shield, but still probably worth $200.

Try to get your images faced correctly as it helps to grade.

You should see if it's magnetic and try to get an accurate weight. The roundness of the letters on the reverse and the lack of details on the devices is suspicious. Also, the holes on the obverse look like casting bubbles.

I'm going to say fake. The Rev lettering is way off IMO.

Look at the bottom of how the letters in STATES line up in a nice curved line on the PCGS example. In the OP example look at the bottom of the letters, they are all over the place. Also look at the WE in the moto, In the genuine example the bottom W is above the the bottom of the E. In the OP example the letters are even and the W is near the bottom of the ribbon. As noted above, it appears that you have a counterfeit. Genuine PCGS 1872 OP Example

Fake. Rim denticles very inconsistent. Easy to find other problems, but the weight of above comments should be enough to sway your own opinion to stay away from this one.

I believe he is saying the weight of the comments (as in the severity of the comments), and is not referring to the weight of the coin.
