found this in a roll and wanted to get opinions on it ,It appears to have some sort of planchet damage before minting I dont think acid had anything to do with it as all letters of in god we trust dont look damaged thanks for looking is there any value if it is an error

It looks like a foreign substance like clear adhesive and it was not minted that way.

First I have to comment on the adhesive and foreign substance on the coin let me say I might not have found ground breaking coins but I'm also not a rookie at this and I would like to know why you think I would even post something like tape on it or glue the coin you see is some sort of damage on the planchet I dont see what kind of acid or abrasive or whatever would have eaten the metal around the letters leaving the letters alone so what else do you think other than a damaged planchett could have caused this you can see on some of the letters where the two different layers cross the letters espcially WE again thanks for looking

Thanks for looking and again I'm asking for my educational reasons what kind of PMD would have caused this and how and why couldn't it be a damaged planchet it's hard to learn anything when all you get is the basic response it seems never an explination as to what or how something like this happens and never a well it is a possibility I dont see any other explanation or reasons to be this way other than that's the way it started seems there is never any positive responses always a negative I dont understand why there arnt more possibilities than the same PMD all the time again thanks everyone for looking

A lot going on with this coin, but nothing good. Just a spendable coin.

Could this not be a lamination issue? or even grease intervention? Just a spender of course but a curious find.

Clad coins don't laminate. The clad can have some peeling. But on this coin if the Motto is incuse, it looks like something on the coin it that area is raised, or, if incuse it may have had a couple drops of acid added to that area and reduced the surface on that area. If so then the coin is altered and no premium for this coin as it was done post strike. (not a mint error)

Again I will state that there is nothing on the coin ,why dont they they have lamination issues, and third I keep hearing this acid reasoning about a lot of coins to me it seems as acid wouldnt be so selective about what it is going to dissolve how does any acid sit there long enough to dissolve all the metal around the lettering but not the lettering and why couldn't this be a bad planchet from the beginning thanks for looking

If you're not comfortable with input on your coin, consider submitting to a third party for assessment/attribution. If you do, please share the outcome.
