Agree. Damaged coin--happened after being struck at the mint. Cool find. Wonder what stories it could tell.

 The one thing I have to add is that that looks like an '82, not '83.

Looks like a "Texas" cent. The stretching makes the plating fall off the coin.

Pennies aren't oval shaped. Keep it. Little defects like these make a coin awesome. Even though it is P (poor grade as of PCGS) it's still interesting

It will never be worth more than face. And with the missing plating the zinc will be rotting fast.

Given the right conditions, the zinc coins will expand and warp. These were in a jar [not the shiny one].

Fire, The zinc will melt long before the copper does. Flattens out the coin and warps it like you see. Then someone found them and put them in a jar. Maybe metal detecting
